The main aim of Tamiyaweb is to provide an alternative resource for what could be considered the golden era of the universal chassis, approximately ranging from model numbers 58084 to 58258 or in other terms the years 1987 through 1999.
Although some information about earlier cars and those that were released at a later date can also be found here, the initial intent has been to provide a continuous and complete overview of the second hundred models produced by the company.
This comprises manuals, dealer guide parts lists, exploded views and information from a series of guide books. A single smart interface and search function will ultimately make all content easily accessible.
While the site was started years ago, development is still ongoing and much progress is yet to be made. More worthwhile content will be added soon.
Without the contributions of members in the brand community the existing extent of documentation would not have been feasible.
Restoring Manuals
All scans of reasonable quality get the chance to be made available here but not before each page has gone through a thorough editing.
In many cases this does not take too much effort, perhaps just some rotation to align the image or the removal of some minor blemishes. But often is it quite a bit of work.
Imperfections may vary from severe background bleed to large smudges from all kinds of substances, perforations, missing edges, stickers or in case of the illustration - decal numbers that are crossed off with ballpoint in order to keep track of progress.
The goal is to restore all these flaws.
Even though the last example had a second option for a decal scheme on the next page from which most of the numbers could be used to reconstruct the circa ninety defaced items, it still took a good two hours to finish the job.
The most time consuming manual however altogether took two days. The issue there was extreme bleedthrough of the image on the back side, which is about the most difficult aspect to tackle.
Removing it unavoidably affects the integrity of the drawing itself as well. Replacing the relevant bits that were lost in the process afterwards is quite fiddly and labour intensive.
Only few of the manuals here have not gone through this meticulous approach but every single page has had at least the minimal amount of attention.
Some documents might be worth a bit more effort due to rarity, higher potential demand because of popularity or initial quality of the scan but all material available should eventually be held to the highest possible standard.
This sometimes means a better specimen will be replacing the current upload and previous work is discarded.
But as can be seen below, perfection is impossible to achieve and at some point the line has to be drawn.
